Help with 350
As some of you know, i have a Basket Case 66' 350 Narrow Case Sebring. I am working on the motor at the moment and am looking Local resources if there are any in the south western ontario. I am aware of Mr.Corvello, but is a bit out of the way, but not out of the question. I am looking at getting the Head machined for new valve guides & newer valve seals (newer 2valve stuff) and think i have a shop that will take care of that.
What i am wondering is, is there anywhere that offers gasket kits if i happen to have to split the cases and get into it a bit deeper?
Is there anyone around here getting rid of any old single parts? i need a few items like Valve springs ( must be new), forks (my forks are umm f**ked), I will be looking for shims for it as well for setting the top end. Break shoes, chain (530) & sprocket.
possibly looking for Clip-on's, break & clutch leavers, riders pegs (originals will do untill i get my own ideas sorted)

Stop thinking gaskets, start thinking reduced shims (surface grind exact shim and just sealer of your choice). I do like Ducati bond. Gaskets are a waste of effort. they vary from manufacturer, why would you want that? plus they wick, sealer does not. RIP gaskets, as it should be.

Thanks for tolerating another of my rants. I find the Ducati bond very easy to work with, clean up is also good. Yes part# 942470014 is available and not too expensive ($14 I think). Truth is those old bikes love a million shims. I built a 250 with surface ground to size replacements, just so it would be easier to have apart if needed (never happened). Brother Gerry mentioned a sealer he likes that is available in auto parts stores. Point being, sealer of choice is consistent for total shim calculation. Best thing is when you build it so well it stays together for years, it will be less likely to sweat or leak as time goes on. Ducati stopped using paper gaskets somewhere around 2001...for a reason.

Phil at Road and Race in Australia, while not local, can offer advice and tons of parts. Google them.
OTOH, Rick isn't that far from you!

BTW: if Henry built the bottom end, unless it was stored under water it will likely be fine. Splitting the cases isn't that difficult and as long as you watch out for the shims it goes back together pretty easily too.
BTW2: I just went and looked at a 250 bottom end I still have lying around, and I didn't see any gaskets at all, which jived with the memory I have that there aren't any.....but I could be wrong - its been a while since I split one.

Gaskets: Original = Yes, Tuned / rebuilt = likely No

Chris: thanks for clarifying the gaskets - the bottom end I have has definitely been apart which might explain the lack of gaskets.
Re: shipping from Oz: I never had any issues - in fact I've experienced an order on Monday arriving before the end of the week.....to my door even! Of course, YMMV.
Not to go off topic, but Chris: can you say more about the Pantah you are working on? There weren't that many 500s brought to Canada and there was a time that everyone knew who owned each one.....

Not much to say at this point. Parts to order now.
This spent most of it's life in Europe, and came to Canada with owner It has been sitting the better part of ten years. That should give an indication,...needs some work. Engine is low production number, which killed idea of 600 or so upgrade. After about 1600 motors were made the case bores got bigger, tranny and clutch beefed up, etc. Plan is to get it back to life, then...? Lots of work need for cosmetics, not on the plate yet.
Once I get some carb & brake kits, there will be more to do. If possible I'll toss up a post when it gets a little closer to being a whole runner again.

Parts for 500 Pantah came in from Bevel Heaven, Thanks Steve!, hope to hear it bark again today. Brakes are an absolute mess, but I am hoping to use the parts sent sort that as well. It isn't a lot of fun to bring stuff up from the states these days, but Steve did better than others I have dealt with over the last while. Just carb and brake kits, plus some sprockets. I gotta say, I tried to find it up here, and found some. I just could not risk having 2 or 3 suppliers to try to make it work. I wanted a one shot deal, and was pleased with everything supplied.
