Dzus Fasteners
I've just spent two weeks trying to find out where to get Dzus fasterners for my 916 - a fairing repair meant that I had to find ones slighly longer than stock, because of the layer of epoxy.
First, go to
Find the Dzus section and look at one critical measurement - from the bottom of the head to the groove in the fastener. Measure that dimension for your Duc. Southco has bail-type Dzus in nearly every size. The bail is the little wire thing on top.
Southco has several Candian distributors:
Don't bother contacting Southco - they are the manufacturers and 5000 is the minimum order quantity (DOCC lifetime bulk order??).
If you can't find the exact length, try getting one slightly longer and adding a small nylon washer.
Good luck.

Don't bother with the Markham site listed under DB Roberts. I called them today looking for DZUS fasteners and they told me they didn't sell them and directed me to the US.
Pro6 was able to get me "Dzus style" fasteners.

Here's a pic of one of the slots in the upper/lower fairing joint, with the dzus fastener backing plate for comparison. Do the joints or mounting places on 748-999s look much different from this?
I could see these backing plates working if the attachment point was a frame lug, but not a fairing joint. Anyone know if I can buy smaller backing plates which will mate with the fasteners I bought?
It's either that or I'll just sell these on.

Dutz
Mike D be careful with the body work. You could modify either the body work and/or the fastener but you may still run into a problem. There is a specific distance the Dutz bolt must meet when mated to the Dutz spring clip. The distance is needed so the fastener maintains tension between the body pieces or between the body work and frame. If the distance is to great when the parts are mated you will damage the body work and if the distance is to small the clip will lock but the parts will have a sloopy fit and most likely you may loose them on the road. There is a type of twist fastener that in used for flush mounts in the aircraft industry, forget the name right now but will find out and pass it along.

Dzus
Mike D, checked with an Aircraft Mechanic and lo and behold the fasteners are the same. There is some confusion out there as how to pronounce the name, Dzus fasteners are actually pronounced ( Zoo - ss) the same as the greek god. The air industry have been using these fasteners for a long time and there are many different types out there. If you contact Levins Brothers in Toronto I'm sure you will be able to find a type that will work for your application. Good Luck and cheers.
