Cheap stand for later SS models

Here is our solution:

Image

Ingredients:

Pair of jack stands

one pipe long enough to reach from one stand to the other, by way of going through the bike

Optional: some kind of protective cover for the pipe so it doesn't scratch the paint. We used some of the packing material from a guitar stand we bought for our son.

Optional: additional pipe to use inside the main pipe for additional leverage when raising the bike onto the stand.

Our original experiments had been conducted using a hockey stick as the pipe. The final pipe is a piece from a wood clamp.

The front wheel we raise by putting a rod through the hollow front axle and raising it onto another pair of jackstands.

Actually, the bikes live in a red brick schoolhouse built in 1890. Makes an excellent garage! We even managed to get an austin Mini through the doors a few years ago, but that's the biggest car we can get in there.
