Re: Summer 2011 Bancroft Ride
This is what I envision for a weekend event.
We pick an obliging hotel somewhere in a area where there are some decent roads. Georgia or Vermont come to mind, but let's suggest Bancroft, Ontario for a start, since we have been there in the past.
A group of people come together at the hotel Friday night and meet for dinner and a beverage. I would expect that most people will stay at the hotel, but that is optional.
Saturday, we head out on a route that is more or less predetermined. The more people there are, the more important that the route be pre-established (more or less). If a half dozen show, we can be more impromptu. Pre-registration is recommended, if only for planning purposes.
We ride for the day, meeting somewhere for lunch (no alcohol - no exceptions!). Again, the more people involved, the more planning that is required. You can't have 30 people show up at a small town restaurant without warning and expect to have good service. Total riding day 300 - 400 km. I would expect that the pace would be brisk, but not stupid. Remember that 130 in an 80 will cost you your bike for a week!
We meet back at the hotel at the end of the day and get together as a group. We walk to dinner so that adult beverages can be enjoyed. As far as I am concerned, crack open a bottle and your riding day is over!
Back at the hotel, we bench race and tell lies about how fast we are until curfew.
Come Sunday morning, we can meet for breakfast and them every one heads off in separate directions to go home.
Personally, I will probably trailer my bike at least part way. Bancroft is 500 kilometers from where I live. Go ahead, call me a candy ass. I don't mind.
So guys, lets hear your ideas!
Is this what you had in mind?
Do you know of any motorcycle friendly hotels?
How about good roads in the area.
Are there other areas that we should look at? We don't want to go too far a field or people may not come.
Timing? I am thinking late June, but not too close to Calabogie (same bike different configurations for me) It also means that we may be able to avoid some of the summer traffic.
Fire off some suggestions and let's see if we can't pull something together.

All of that sounds good to me Dave. End of June also works, but would like to firm up the date as soon as possible. I'd be in for alternative location if better for others.

I'm wide open to suggestions for different venues. All we need is a MC friendly place to meet.

Is Bala too far for the Friday evening meetup? I hear that there is a hotel that's haunted. I would be interested in attending.

Re: Summer 2011 Bancroft Ride
Bala looks like a possibility. Can we put together a 300 - 400 km loop of decent roads and not attract to much attention for the red and blue flashing lights?

Dave,
\i'm working on planning a potential route. Should I be concerned with the condition of the roads and plan for 1098 friendly roads and stick to the faster twisties? I ride a Multi so the condition isn't as critical for me, and I think a fourth gear corner should be ridden in fifth.

Re: Summer 2011 Bancroft Ride
Dirt roads and superbikes don't go well together.
I suggest that we watch the speeds: 130kph is 50 over in an 80 and a quick trip to a long walk home and some expensive bike storage care of the OPP. This should be about fun and not ultimate speed.
Just my 2 cents.

Exactly why I tend to stay away form the widely spaced twisties.

Mr Tint,
Do you still have your 1098 as well as the unnamed (because I don't remember what it was) Japanese bike?
Can you recomend a bike group friendly hotel up there?

Re: Summer 2011 Bancroft Ride
Has anyone stayed at the Best Western Sword Motor Inn in Bancroft? In the US Best Western has been rolling out Motorcycle friendly hotel programs in cooperation with Harley. Haw much could they hate a bunch of guys (immature as we are) on Itailian twins?

Swords is where we used to stay when we did the Bancroft run. They will be the first one I will contact if we decide that Bancroft is the place to go.
