valve adj on a 748 track bike

Postby zxmarc » Tue Aug 11, 2009 5:24 pm

I have a few track days comming up and want to use my 748 that i purchased a few days ago, problem is i need to know if the valve clearance is ok? or will the engine blow up, they are on the loose side so i'm guessing that is good compared to too tight,
here are the specs

Vertical .........................................

exh op .007 closing .004 and op .008 closing .004

intake op .005 closing .0045 and op .005 closing .0065

horizontal ...............................

exh op .005 closing .001 and op .006 closing .0055

intake op .0055 closing .0045 and .0055 closing .0045

thanks

As someone who just replaced 4 valves, 8 opener rockers, 1 closing rocker, 1 camshaft and a valve guide in my 2001 748, you may want to have them properly adjusted. Leaving the maintenance on that motor is the worst thing you can do.

Don't assume that too loose is better than too tight as that's not necessarily the case in a Desmo head. It may indicate that your valves are beaten into the seats and damage is already done.
