Singles selector boxes

Anyone have Eldert Rademaker's current email address? If I can repair and upgrade my 350 selector box I can ride it again and it won't happen without this shifter box returning to functional status once more. It overselects both ways even though the bias is centred. The place for lots of neutrals is the Senate, not here.

OOOOOh fran I have two or three in parts , but that doesn't mean they will make a good one
or even a bad one mine seems fraught with accessory neutrals???? and my right foot is none too bright.

Don,

Accessory neutrals is the issue. Henry sets them up meticulously and eschews using grease but is famously frugal with his secrets. One deduces only later some of what he has left out from an explanation of how to set up a particular mechanical contrivance such as these shifter boxes. His basic edict of reducing unnecessary free-play in all the bushings and links is sound.
Kind of a wonder we ever see any operational Duc singles considering what's going on inside the archaic little anachronisms.

You might want to check with Rocket Rick or Tim Spiegelberg about setting up these gearboxes. Tim built the one on my old race bike and it worked fabulously. The new bike has one of Henry's motors in it so it goes without saying that any missed shifts are strictly due to operator error.

I need a selector box that knows better than I do about the hows and exactly whens to shift. Timing of any kind has never been my strong suit, ask my wife about the time...oh, maybe we'll just let that one go...

Hey Fran... mon ami!

No need to go oversea to get the gremlins out of your selector box anymore...
I have been working a lot around the poor shifting behavior of our Duc singles... especially with the NC while shifting at 10,000 rpm or more in racing mode...

Two issues to fix:
1... The looseness and backlash in general into the selector box. By using only original parts to start with, I have been able to "modify" those to remove all unwanted looseness and obtain the required accuracy. Works great!
2... But, there is another point that can't be ignored, especially with the NC gear sets. The shifting dogs were very poorly cut. I had my machinist to develop tooling to recut all dogs to 5deg... a bit expensive BUT!... combined with the selector box mod!!!... the thing now shifts like any modern race bike...

rick covello has a fix for this problem but!!!! it requires disassembling the entire motor lazy and poor shifting is the result of poor tolerances in gearbox shimming all of the selector box fixes in the world won,t fix a poorly shimmed gear box!!
