Race prep front end on a 999

Postby Martoon5 » Sun Mar 12, 2006 6:16 pm

Hi There folks!
REF: 2004 999
I started taking apart my 999...Well not realy, but just the front end. I noticed that I could remove the entire front end with 4 bolts. The only problem I have is: If I put a race fairing bracket and race upper, do I need a new harness? Also, How do I remove the instruments? They look like I could just pull on them...put I'm afraid to break something.
My goal is to swap my street fairing with my future race fairings very quickly. Does anyone have a step by step?
The big harness looks complicated and what happens with the fuse box integrated with the headlight casting?

Thanks!
Martin

Hi Martin

There is a Ducati part that solves this problem. It is a new race upper with a harness that eliminates the headlights. It includes a new fuse box with fuses.

So your process would be as follows

1: remove street faring

2: unplug stock headlight/fuse box wiring (one plug) and remove the cast besel

3: Install Ducati Performance upper mount and plug in wiring

4: Install race farings.

Once you have done this a couple of times it will be second nature.

Martin, I am just about to get one of these in for my 749, if you would like me to add one for you to the order, just email me at work (Ducati Toronto / Rev Cycles) I will give you the DOCC discount.

If you don't mind leaving the stock wiring zip tied out of the way, there is also a Vortex bracket I can get you. Cheaper in price and in quality to the DP unit.

Oh, for the gauges, yes, just pull on them. A light steady pull should have them popped off in your hands in no time.
