749 track bike opinions

I've been reading articles on the internet now I'd like to hear the opinions of some of the forum members; How would you rate an properly set up 749 as a track bike? How does it compare different ducati models produced just before it and slightly after it? Pick any model year 749. Why do I feel like this is a stupid question..

I have been riding a race set up 05 749R for 4 years. I love it. I prefer it over the 916 and 998's that I rode previously. I have never ridden a 1098 or 1198. I think if I were to get a newer bike, it would be a 848R, if and when available.
