12k service
I asked the dealership what it would cost me for a 12k service on my 07 S2R800. $650 for parts and labour. Is that a little high? I mean, it's only a valve check and oil change.

I don't think so as Inglis quoted me approx $570 for LABOUR of changing belts and check valves. Mine is an SS thou, and I've been known to be wrong on occasion.

12000km service is valves only, no belts on the 07. That's done at the 24k service.

Not that I want to defend dealer pricing, but have you ever tried to set up the valves on a Duck? It can be very fiddly especially if you have a number of shims that have to be changed. Admittedly, I am not a professional mechanic, but I have easily spent several hours on a single head getting a 2 valve right. Multiply that by $80/hr and the cost starts to mount quickly.
Wait until you see the cost of a 4 valve tune up. I nearly chocked when they told me the belts for the 749 are $140 each!

And I thought $100CDN each was high for my GT's 2-valve belts
BTW, why is this subject posted in Regional News & Events

Re: 12k service
Sorry dealers.I do my own in the wintertime.Yes it took me a couple of weekends to get it all done. But i did the 944 and the 900 for about $200 worth of shims, and a pair of belts for the 900 at $150.(they had 27,000km on them)And i probably didn't need to change as many shims as i did.But they were already apart.
I am totally convinced that there is way too much unnecessary service done on the 2 valvers. But that's just my two cents.

I'll meet ya in the bar.

Hello All,
A note of caution regarding Kanata St2's advice to contact Jon Snadden regarding the 12000 km check.Wheras Jon is an excellent mechanic and I would never fault the quality of his workmanship or ethics,Jon is not an authorized Ducati dealer. Unfortunately if you have problems motorwise within the warranty period and cannot produce evidence that the prescribed checks were performed at a authorized Ducati dealer, you might have a problem with Ducati honoring the warranty. Also remember the 12000 km. is a check .I would say that the majority of bikes do not need the valves adjusted.
Tnxs. Eric.
