Maintenance Scheduals

Need an informed opinion, what is the difference between the American Maintenance schedual and the metric Maintenance schedual. I see American owner stating they had the maintenance done at 12,000 Miles verses 12,000 Km, what gives and who's correct.

Your probably right and since it's a european Bike I think I should stick to KM's. Thanks.

There is a good listing of maintenance schedules in the Haynes manual for my 916. These are the main maintenance intervals.

1. Initial 600 miles or 1000km.

2. Every 6000 miles or 10,000 km after.

3. every 12,000 miles, or 20,000 km or every 2 years. ( ie change fork oil and other fluids that deteriorate over time, brake and clutch fluid)

There is also a every 600 km list that can be done by the owner, which is very simple maintenance and up keep.

1. Check battery
2. Check brake pads for wear
3. Check, adjust and lubricate drive chain
4. Check throttle cable operation and freeplay.
5. check and lubricate the stand, lever pivits, and cables.
6. Check the wheel and tire condition, and tire tread depth.

See this is what I'm talking about, the Haynes manual is probably printed in the States and the rate they quote is in Miles. Thanks musicrocketman for your input while it may not solve my problem it sure brings it out into the light screamin and kickin.
