Low speed cough
My wife's new 695 (still in "break in") has an annoying "cough". In first gear, as it moves off at around 2,000-3,000RPM, the engine will pull and then have one cough or sneeze with a drop in power. and then start to pull well after that.
The bike is fine in all other aspects but when you think of how often you move off from a standing stop into a sharp left or sharp right turn and have the power drop off in the middle of your low speed turn, it's annoying.

The most useful 'mod' I can think of doing to a new Ducati is to lower the gearing slightly - I had an '02 620 Monster and after I put a 14tooth sprocket on the front moving off was much smoother with less 'snatchiness' on the chain. I've done the same thing to the 750ss and 800ss since then and it really does make the bike easier to ride.
Another benefit is that rather than being just at the point where you'd like to change gear at every speed limit - giving you the choice of screaming along in a lower gear or lugging it in the next one - you'll be more in the comfort zone for the engine while cruising through town at 50 under the watchful gaze of the rozzers.
Just made this change to my 800ss with the same result. I think these bikes are all overgeared from the factory.

Common problem. Reset the TPS and have the throttle bodies sync'd. If the dealer's any good, he'll adress this at the first inspection. Otherwise find someone with a Mathesis or VDSTS and have them make the adjustment.

I have a friend in Peterborough with the new M695 as well. He found the gearing a problem and changed the front sproket and it transformed the bike. It is more tractable in traffic and has the power where he needs it.
