Ground wire routing on ST4

Reassembling my 2001 ST4. The ground wire from the neg. battery terminal goes to the rear of the engine is fairly long. It looks like it is supposed to loop around the crancase breather before connecting to the ground connection (which BTW can only have been located where it is after exhaustive study to determine where it would be THE most inconvenient place to get at).

Does anyone know if the loop around the breather and then to the lug is the correct routing? It concerns me that this puts the wire quite close to the exhaust pipe.
