2001 748 starting issue

Postby robb916998 » Sun Jul 05, 2015 7:48 pm

Going to calabogie last week end and the 748 wont start , for hours of charging and trying and all it will do is turn over . Long story but I ended up taking the front spark plug lead off to test for spark and not only did it spark it started on one cylinder . it was hard to start again at the track and after we changed the plugs .
So today I went over all the electrics , wires, connectors, relays (took then apart and looked and cleaned contacts ) spent some time with her looking ! tried to start it and nothing again . took the front spark plug lead off again and it has no spark !!! so thinking is their really nothing I touch the lead while cranking ,,,
nothing for maybe 2 cranks and than yep my eyes light up and I loose some bodily functions . OH and it starts on one cylinder again .

any ideas hear people , coil shorting making it a low volt unit ?? I'm struggling with this one .
pick up sensor ? brain loosing its conative functions ??

thanx

Is there any damage to the spark plug wire for the misfiring plug. Sometime tiny cracks form in these things and it shorts out to the frame or engine.

Brandon and I were just talking today about the possibility of a wire going bad so I think I will put the 916 units on and give that a try . I cant see any arcing or burn spots but maybe im not looking in the rite spots . Never thought of the grounds on the block , went over the battery , solenoid and relay connections . I give them a cleaning .
