2005 s2r 800 vs newer 796 as commuter
maybe not the right forum but who better to ask then you guys.
ducatis for all my life have only being in the magazines or driving by and I dont know what I dont know..
I found a gorgeous s2r for $7 500 with 25km but thats kinda used and I have been considering a less used 796 for near to same money.
my point .. is a ducati ever a commuter bike?? can you really creep, I mean really creep for a long time daily on a s2r800 or any duc for that matter.
I currently ride a 2001 triumph bonnie which can creep like crazy. i used to be a bicycle courier years ago and my bonnie creeps like a mountain bike. But, it is time and besides sticking with triumph and going with the street tripleR which may not creep either, nothing out there is appealing. Heres the thing I keep hearing the duc clutch is not for stop and go!! and that under 30 km/h I will quickly regret shuddering around town.
Again . creeping for long stretches. say 10 km/h kinda stuff. anybody??

I commute to work on my M796, and the clutch isn't an issue in heavy traffic (unlike the dry clutch on my Sport 1000, which is pretty brutal). On the other hand, it does not like creeping around under the speed limit on city streets; 10km/h would be brutal for extended periods, with a lot of clutch slipping. I believe the S2R800 also has a wet clutch (unlike the S2R1000), but these oversquare twins just aren't made for creeping along at such low speeds.

a year later the s2r makes a great commuter bike. and just did the 15 to 14 tooth swap up front so now it is even easier.
